This novel Carla Friedman (b. 1952) - niderlanskoy writer, journalist and translator - poignant story about a young girl named Chaya, a student of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Antwerp. She works part-time nanny in an orthodox Jewish family, and all my heart is tied to their youngest son, Simcha (his name is translated from Hebrew as "joy") - four-year "skinny boy in the ever-wet pants", dreams of becoming a duck pond in a city park. After a while, Simcha-Joy drowns in the same pond. It turns her life. She's trying to get away from thinking about what happened, translated from the philosophical to the Department of Physics. But the story of her parents - mother, who runs the memories in the world of cooking and sewing, and his father, ready to dig the city in search of buried in someone else's garden "suitcases of memories," with books, violin and old photographs - again and again returns to her eternal issues and understanding of their Jewishness. She even wrote a letter to the late Albert Einstein about his "hypothesis of God." "Cruel and touching romance" - said of this book, the newspaper "New York Times".
